Although Christmas is mainly celebrated in Western culture, China still has its fair share of festive events, particularly in Shanghai.
Whether you're a Westerner traveling abroad or simply someone who wants to be surrounded by Christmas cheer, here's a brief overview of some of Shanghai's hotspots this holiday season courtesy of ChinaDaily:

European Christmas Town
This festive event consists of a number of decorations including massive Christmas trees as well as a fancy merry-go-round, and will be operating for two weeks covering an area that spreads over 300 yards.
Located at Kongkou Natorium in Shanghai, the European Christmas Town showcases scenery with snowy views surrounded by classic European buildings.
The Christmas Town event opened Dec. 13 and will run through the day after Christmas, Dec. 26. Tickets for the event cost 50 yuan on weekdays and 70 yuan on weekends.
Ice Town
Located at the Shanghai Italian Center, China has created an ice-themed town for the first time that Christmas enthusiasts wouldn't want to miss. The town is separated into four sections consisting of a Christmas market, an ice and snow park, a restaurant, and simulated Poles.
The most interesting part of the town is a bar that's completely made out of ice. All the tables, chairs and even glasses are reportedly made from ice, but visitors are required to wear a special coat and gloves to counter the -5 degrees Celsius room temperature.
The Ice Town opened Dec. 20 and will continue for a couple months until March 8. Tickets for this event costs 100 yuan on weekdays and 130 yuan on weekends.
Expo Origin
Also a first for Shanghai is the indoor Christmas market located in Zone 5 at the Expo Origin in Pudong New Area. The market is a 3,000 square-meter Christmas town showcasing Santa Claus and his reindeers, as well as decked out carriages.
The indoor town boasts a classic North Pole atmosphere featuring Christmas street scenery in addition to a large snowmaking machine. The town also has a big playground for children.
This event opened on Dec. 13 and will continue up until Christmas Day, and entry costs just 60 yuan per person.
