Three months after being arrested after a drug bust at his Beijing home, Jaycee Chan, the son martial arts movie star Jackie Chan, has been officially charged with providing a venue for drug users.

If convicted, Chan could face up to three years in jail.

Chan, 32, was arrested August 14, when Beijing police detained multiple people for drug offenses, including Taiwan movie star Kai Ko. According to the People's Procuratorate of Beijing's Dongcheng District, Chan was accused of sheltering others to use drugs in his home where more than 100 grams of marijuana were confiscated by police. Chan and Ko tested positive for marijuana and both admitted to taking the drug.

In August Jackie Chan apologized for his son's actions, saying he felt "ashamed" and "sad." The arrest is particularly sensitive to the elder Chan who was named an official "Narcotics Control Ambassador" by Chinese police in 2009.

While Ko was released after a 14-day administrative detention for drug use, Chan was put under "criminal detention" for the more serious charge of "providing a shelter for others to abuse drugs," Beijing police said at the time.

Jaycee Chan's management firm M'Stones International apologized on his behalf, reports the BBC, for the "social impact" caused and said they would "supervise his rehabilitation and help him return to the right path."

In October, the Chinese government banned film and TV companies from hiring actors and entertainers who use drugs or prostitutes.  China's media watchdog, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, ordered entertainment companies to stop hiring stars who use drugs or visit prostitutes. The ban also covers online media, film producers and publishers.

In addition to Chan and Ko's arrests, writer Chen Wanning, also known as Ning Caishen, was detained earlier this year for methamphetamines.

The government says that stars who use drugs or visit prostitutes have harmed the image of the entertainment industry, and that they set a bad example for children.
