goTenna; an Amazing New Communication Gadget

Most of us have experienced problems sending a text (SMS) message for a couple of reasons.

The first is there aren't cell towers nearby and the second is the cell system's overloaded. Well, we can probably kiss these problems goodbye.

A tiny gadget called goTenna allows users to send messages or communicate with others without the need for access to central connectivity means such as cell towers, satellites or Wi-Fi.

It's a small tube-looking device measuring 6 inches by 1 inch by half an inch. It solves the reception problem by allowing a user to send messages and broadcast his location to friends (who also have the device).

A user pairs the device with his smartphone over Bluetooth. When a user send texts, it's transmitted by long-range radio wave instead of over a wireless network.

"When you are completely off the grid, you can remain connected," said Daniella Perdomo, co-founder of goTenna.

"In fact, goTenna will work even if your smartphone is in airplane mode."

Forbes Magazine described goTenna as "so intriguing" since the device can provide the solution to common phone reception problems, especially those caused by overwhelmed towers and no signals.

The only slight problem that consumers may face is the purchase price. The goTenna is being offered at almost $150 per pair, something that many may think is a little too steep.
