Comedian Adam Sandler once again nabbed the top spot in Forbes' list of Hollywood's most overpaid actors.

This is the second year in a row that the actor was given the dubious feat, beating Johnny Depp and Tom Hanks, the magazine reported Tuesday.

Forbes determined who made it into their list of overpaid celebrities by looking at the last three films where each actor topbilled before June 2014, considering each film's budget and how much it grossed to determine the return on investment for each actor.

Animated movies and films with limited or films where stars have cameos or featured roles were singled out.

Sandler's latest film Grown Ups 2 was a hit, grossing over US$245 million worldwide, although it was, however, not enough to upset the disappointing performance of his two previous films, Jack and Jill and That's My Boy.

"We estimate that for every US$1 Sandler was paid, he returned an average of US$3.20," said Forbes, the lowest return on investment of any actor whose record the magazine examined." Forbes' Dorothy Pomerantz wrote.

Johnny Depp came in at No. 2, with an estimated return of US$4.10 for every dollar paid to him, mainly because of the poor performance of The Lone Ranger and Dark Shadows.

Comedian Ben Stiller made it to No. 3, with US$4.80 ROI, after Tower Heist and The Watch's poor performance at the box office.

Ryan Reynolds suffered one of the most disappointing box office performances last year, as R.I.P.D. turned out a flop. He landed on the fourth place with US$4.90 for each dollar paid.

Rounding up the top five is two time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, with US$5.20 return, due to the Cloud Atlas' epic flop.

7. Channing Tatum: returns US$6.70 for every US$1 paid.

8. Denzel Washington: returns US$6.90 for every US$1 paid.

9. Sandra Bullock: returns US$9 for every US$1 paid.

10. Ben Affleck: returns US$9.37 for every US$1 paid.
