The singer, who has been relatively quiet lately, stepped up to clarify issues that her ailment is drug related.
"The rehab RUMORS are hilarious! The only thing I'm addicted to right now is Bing Crosby. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! and to all a goodnight!" she tweeted last night.
The celebrity, however, has not specified the details of her illness.
Her fans rallied to her support, posting hashtags #GetWellSoonAvril and #PrayforAvril, as a sign of their love for her.
News started circulating that Lavigne was ill after a Twitter account dedicated to her, Avril Lavigne Charts, posted a screenshot of a private message that the fan page and Lavigne exchanged.
The singer's confirmed that the screenshot was real.
The private conversation talked about Lavigne's absence from events because of her illness, Us Magazine revealed.
"I feel bad because I haven't been able to say anything to the fans to let them [know] why I've been absent," she shared.
"I'm having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers."
