India deployed military helicopters to the northeastern state of Assam after rebels attacked the area on Tuesday and left 75 people dead, including children.

The attack last Tuesday in the remote area of India is said to be the deadliest so far. Tribal fighters are now being hunted as they are held responsible for the said massacre.

According to military officials, the helicopters deployed in the area are now sweeping through the jungles of Assam in an effort to track the rebels that are reportedly trying to get to Bhutan and the neighboring state in India called Arunachal Pradesh. The path from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh is a thickly forested area thus the need for helicopters, officials said.

There was also an additional of 5,000 soldiers deployed in the area and the government noted that the attack might have been due to the rebels wanting to break away from India.

The incident happened in just an hour as the fighters, suspected to be from a faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland, attacked the four villages in Assam then pulled people out of their homes and shot them dead.

Around half of the victims were reportedly women and children and were tea plantation workers. This has been confirmed by the chief minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi. In the wake of the attack, around 2,000 people left the area, fearing for their lives and seeking shelter in relief camps.

Reports also suggest that the massacre might have been influenced by the offensive attack that the security forces of India launched against the earlier mentioned faction a month ago. The said offensive left caused the rebels to lose around 40 men as well as many of their rms and ammunition.

These rebels are said to be fighting for their own state as they accuse India's capital, New Delhi, of abusing the resources of the country and flooding the country with outsiders.
