The CIA is Now on Twitter

The most famous spy agency on Earth has admitted it's on Twitter - officially.
And the collective response to that claim is "Really? Only yesterday?"
The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, famous or infamous worldwide as the CIA, unleashed its first "official" tweet on the world yesterday. The clever and cheeky tweet read:
Like Us on Facebook
"We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet."
You're probably grinning in disbelief. It's no secret the CIA has been mining tweets for intelligence for years in a secret social media-tracking center.
First tweet or not, the CIA announcing itself available to followers saw more than 60,000 Twitter users signing up to follow the new "@CIA" account within an hour after it officially became a tweeter.
What followed were the expected humorous tweets, alternately funny and sardonic, and others that were downright spiteful of the CIA, on the Twitterverse.
The CIA says its Twitter account will feature photos, reflections on intelligence history and fun facts from the CIA World Factbook. There will also be career postings and photos from the CIA Museum.
The spy agency says it will participate in Throwback Thursday (#tbt), a weekly trend when social media users post old photographs of themselves.
The agency also launched a Facebook account last June 1 to a less than rousing welcome. Perhaps indicative of the ambivalence with which people see the CIA is that a mere 300 persons have liked the CIA Facebook page since it came online.
The CIA already has a website and Flickr and You Tube accounts.
