Sunfire GmbH, a German clean-technology company, claims that it has invented a machine that can make fuel out of water.

According to Water Online, the German tech company has recently showcased what it calls the "Power to Liquid" technology, which allows users to have water and carbon dioxide transformed into various types of fuels, including petrol, diesel, and kerosene. The company says that, "The rig, at this stage, is for demonstration and feasibility purposes."

Christian von Olshausen, the Sunfire CTO, stated that their findings have revealed that the "rig enables us to prove technical feasibility on an industrial scale."

While the technology is indeed impressive, there are still some caveats that consumers should know about, especially since these issues are some of the factors that prevent consumers from gaining access to the technology.

The Sunfire CTO explained that, "It is now a matter of regulatory factors falling into place in a way which gives investors a sufficient level of planning reliability. Once that has occurred it will be possible to commence the step-by-step substitution of fossil fuels. If we want to achieve fuel autonomy in the long term, we need to get started today."

As True Activist has cited, the fuel-turning-water machine involves a certain type of procedure called the "Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis." This process, developed by Hans Tropsch and Franz Fischer, both chemists of German descent a little less than a hundred years ago, is an integral part of the technology.

The Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis has already been made available almost a 100 years ago. One of the key reasons as to why it has not been so widespread is because the process involved is extremely expensive that researchers and scientist consider it impractical. However, much thanks to the new machine that Sunfire has created, it may just be the right thing to make the process cheaper, more convenient, and more efficient.
