In this year in particular, Christmas Eve is also a lucky day for wedding on Chinese lunar calendar, so lots of wedding locations have been reserved for a long time. Yeung stated that the newlyweds must make reservation for restaurants at least a year and a half in advance and must reserve for hotels at least two years in advance if they want to hold the weddings on Christmas Eve.
Yeung said that as long as Christmas Eve is not the day of misfortune on Chinese lunar calendar, many Hong Kong residences will choose that day to hold weddings. Not a few Christians hope to get married on Christmas Eve due to religion influence. This year, Christmas Eve is also a lucky day for wedding as well as public holidays, the wedding locations in the whole Hong Kong must be fully reserved.
Yeung estimated that the 600 couples in Hong Kong who had weddings on Christmas Eve might pay up to 30 percent more than they normally would have to. Yeung also said that if newlyweds would like to get married in a restaurant on Christmas Eve, they must wait for at least a year and a half. If they would like to hold weddings in a hotel, the wait time must be two years at least.
Fang, who had wedding in Wanchai, Hong Kong, on Christmas Eve said, "The price of the wedding dinner is 20% more expensive than ordinary days. But it is rare to get married on the romantic Christmas Eve, so the lucky day cannot be missed." Fang also said that it did not matter to spend more money as long as his wife was happy.
