According to Sony Studios, the controversial comedy, "The Interview" which starred Seth Rogen and James Franco, raked in1 million dollars on its opening day limited release. This statement came out on Friday, amidst reports that the film was rejected by most major theatres.

After the cyber-attack incident, the release of the film was halted, and caused a stir worldwide. However, despite the threats, the film was shown in 300 small independent theaters on Christmas Day and was also made available online either for rent or purchase. Some of these theaters have a minimum capacity of 150 to a maximum of 300 people. Eager watchers have stated that they will stand by their right to watch the movie, whatever it takes.

The film depicts a fictional account of a planned assassination of the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un which sparked the rage of the North Korea, whom the US has blamed for the recent Sony cyber-attack.

Rory Bruer has released an official statement saying that they are extremely grateful to the people all over the country who came to experience the movie on its first day of unconventional release.

It has been reported by a file sharing website that the movie has been illegally downloaded more than 750,000 times. This report decided the studio, that starting Wednesday the movie will be available for purchase at $15 and $6 rental on Microsoft's Xbox platform, YouTube Movies and other digital stores worldwide.

An estimated income of $6 million will be achieved for 1 million views alone. Sony has not given any financial results for its online rollout. To adhere to its rules and regulations, they do not publicly report online and video-on-demand results.

Despite the 1 million takeout, Sony is still certainly at loss with "The Interview." The cost of production alone is already $44 million. And another $35 million more on marketing before its wide release got cancelled.
