The first Vine video from space

American astronaut Gregory Reid Wiseman this Friday made social media history by tweeting the first Vine video shot in outer space to his Twitter followers on Earth.

The six second video loop shows the sun reflecting off solar panels of the International Space Station or ISS, which is where the 38-year-old NASA astronaut is stationed as one of the crew of Expedition 40/41.

Wiseman is part of a three-man crew that arrived at the ISS on May 29. He was accompanied by Russian cosmonaut Max Surayev and German Alexander Gerst of the European Space Agency.

Wiseman's Vine video had text proclaiming "1st Vine from space! Single Earth orbit. Sun never sets flying parallel w/terminator line."

The video tweeted by Wiseman was retweeted over 2,500 times within a few hours by his followers.

Vine is a mobile app owned by Twitter that enables its users to create and post short looping video clips. Vine video clips have a maximum clip length of six seconds and can be shared to Vine's social network, or on Twitter and Facebook

Wiseman, a US Navy pilot and test pilot, was selected in June 2009 as a member of the NASA Astronaut Group 20 and qualified as an astronaut in 2011.
