Russia's Maria Sharapova wins her second French Open title in three consecutive years of making an appearance at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris.

Simona Halep, who became the first Romanian to reach a grand slam final in 36 years, gave her all before losing the title in three hours and two minutes in three grueling sets. Her manager, Virginia Ruzici, remains to be the last Romanian to win a grand slam in 1978 which she also won in Paris.

Sharapova breaks out her winning form as she out shot Halep in the first set, taking it at 6-4.

Fourth seed Halep refuses to go down as she fought back on the second set and winning it 7-6, but eventually losing the third set 6-4.

Sharapova exclaims that "This is the toughest grand slam final I've ever played," who reached the finals after defeating Australian Samantha Stosur, Spanish-Venezuelan Gabrine Muguruza and Canadian Eugenie Bouchard in the semis where she dropped the first set and eventually winning the match in three sets.

Sharapova just added to her purse an additional close to $100 million but what she really wanted was the Suzanne Lenglen Cup.

"If somebody had told me at some stage in my career that I'd have more Roland Garros titles than any other grand slam, I'd probably go get drunk," said Sharapova.

22-year-old Halep shouldn't be too depressed after losing the match for she has bagged a hefty 825,000 Euros ($1.13 million) as runner-up.

"I was crying at that moment for a few minutes, and then I was smiling because I said that it was my first grand slam final, and I have to be happy, to smile, because I did everything on court," Halep told reporters.

"I played very good tennis, very good level. So I'm really proud about these two weeks," she added.
