American Idol champ Phillip Phillips is getting married to longtime girlfriend Hannah Blackwell.

The crooner announced his engagement to her girl of five years via his Facebook page Friday.

"My best Christmas surprise is happening. We're engaged yall! @HannahBlackwell !" Philips announced after posting a picture of him and Blackwell together.  

Blackwell was wearing a ring studded by a solitaire diamond on a gold band.

Blackwell also shared on her Instagram a pic of the engagement ring.

"I've been dreaming of this for over 20 years. I've been dreaming of this guy for just that long. Overwhelmed with happiness. @phillphill" Blackwell posted on her Instagram account.

The two started dating even before Philips rose to fame on American Idol. They got to know each other while they were both serving as volunteers at a women and children's shelter in 2009.

"He was a little more nervous asking for our 1st date ha," Blackwell tweeted about their first fate, saying both of them were quite awkward at each other.

Phillips, who won the title of American Idol's season 11, shared at a radio interview on 104.3 MYfm in 2012 about his first kiss with Blackwell.

"We had just got through with a date," he said.

"I had a lot of fun and everything. I gave her a hug, and I said, 'Would you mind if I kissed you?' She said yes, so I freakin' kissed her, and that's what happened. It was very magical."

Philips, who hailed from Georgia, thanked Hannah for being a huge support during his American Idol journey and beyond.

"She was so excited for me and she helped me out a lot through this," Phillip revealed.

"She's supported me throughout all of this. I love her to death!"

Phillips has just released his second studio album, Behind the Light, this May and went on tour with O.A.R. this summer.

His hit single "Gone, Gone, Gone" has been played in 2012 every time a contestant has been eliminated.
