Directing 'Unbroken' Was A Life-Changing Experience For Angelina Jolie

In a life wherein she has played different characters, actress Angelina Jolie has decided to take another route, from being a wild child in the early 2000's to a breast cancer advocate and mother to Brad Pitt's children, she has decided to try out being a director, not once but twice.
Jolie says that even though she has been absent in the big screen, she has yet to feel comfortable about calling herself a director. "I'm shy to call myself a director whenever someone asks me what I do for a living. I am not sure if I have earned the right to say that I am a director."

"I love directing and I prefer it more than acting," she said.
Her latest directorial effort, "Unbroken" is about the life of Olympian Louis Zamperini, who was an athlete who joined the army during the second world war and was later taken as a prisoner of war by Japanese forces when his plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean.
She also says that her decision to create a film based on a real war veteran was life-changing. "If you had asked me a few years ago about what kind of film I would like to direct, I would have chosen something more intimate and character driven. But I fell in love with the story of Louis Zamperini and decided to go for it, instead."
The Louis Zamperini biopic has been making its rounds in Hollywood since 1956 after Universal bought the rights to the story, there were even plans of having Actor Tony Curtis star as the war veteran.
The film which was released to the public on Christmas Day this year, was actually screened in July for Zamperini and his family. The said screening happened by the veterans death bed.
According to Jolie,"When I first signed on to direct this movie, I had no idea how much of an impact this man would make in my life and how much his story would change me."
"I did not grow up with my father in the house and my grandparents passed away, when I was still very young. So I never really had that older, wiser compassionate friend to help give me guidance and support. Learning about Louis' story made me realize that I did need that older friend,"Jolie disclosed.
