Six people were reported to have been injured after a false alarm of a violent knife attack in Guangzhou was reported on Saturday.
According to police reports, six passengers sustained slight injuries after people started to panic in the subway in Guangdong Province’s Guangzhou. The police said they had received a report that people were starting to panic on Line 3, Meihuayuan Station and that a commotion occurred around 12:52 PM.

The authorities conducted a preliminary investigation on the reported incident and found that a passenger had fainted inside the train after feeling ill. The report went on saying that a subway employee reported the incident to the train driver but was interrupted by one of the passenger’s remarks.
The passenger suddenly shouted that the person who fainted was slashed with a knife by an unidentified commuter. Another passenger shouted that a bomb has been reported to be inside the train.
Upon hearing the remarks, passengers scampered out of the train, injuring six people in the stampede that ensued as they rushed toward the nearest doors. The authorities called on a medical team to assess the injured victims. The doctor said that no serious injuries were caused following the false alarm on the subway.
The authorities were not able to find anything suspicious inside the train. Similar incidents have occurred in other locations where passengers were prompted to panic following rumors of attacks inside the subway.
Tensions in China remained high following attacks linked to terror activities in the past months. This included a May 22 terror related attack in Urumqi, Xinjiang. The incident left 39 people dead and 94 others injured.
Meanwhile, a brawl among passengers on Thursday night set chaos and made a large number of passengers panic at Guomao Station. Experts have called on authorities to conduct an emergency response education in the country.
