The chancellor of the Vatican's Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Bishop Marcelo Sorondo said the Pope wants to be a part of the 2015 UN climate conference in Paris. He wants his involvement in the meeting to be direct and hands-on because it would play a big role in determining the earth's future.

Sorondo said that the idea is to meet with leaders of the main religions to create awareness to the people about the current status of our planet's climate and the dangers of social exclusion.

"Just as humanity confronted revolutionary change in the 19th century at the time of industrialization, today we have changed the natural environment so much," Sorondo said in a meeting with Catholic development agency Cafod in London.

If all these progress affecting the environment continues, this generation would see such unusual climate change and the destruction of the ecosystem will follow along with many disastrous consequences, Sorondo added.

During the recent United Nations summit held in Lima, Peru, Pope Francis talked about the issue of climate change. The members of the UN concurred to create a document for the upcoming meeting in Paris, as they go in depth on the issue of climate change.

The Pope told the Peruvian environmental minister Manuel Pulgar Vidal that the earth would only be able to survive this massive climate change if everybody would cooperate in the solutions.
