In winter, the number of tourists is only 1/3 to 1/4 comparing to that number in summer. Zhangjiajie becomes more accessible at this time of the year. After snow, many photography fans gather here, enjoy the beautiful scenery without the disturbing from visitors. There is a photographer living on Taizi Peak. He has taken many photographs of Wulingyuan's magnificent snow scene. It seems that mountains are wearing white snow hats. Many crystal ice flowers are hanging on the branches of trees nearby. If you look carefully, you will find the pine trees and grass are still green. These green plants mingle with a blanket of snow.  It displays the unique winter style in Wulingyuan Area.

The most notable feature of Wulingyuan Area, dominating about two-thirds of the site, are more than 3,000-quartzite sandstone pillars and peaks. Between the peaks are numerous ravines and gorges, many containing attractive streams, pools and waterfalls. The site also contains a number of karst features, notably some 40 caves that are concentrated on the banks of the Suoxiyu River and the southeast side of Tianzi Mountain.

Wulingyuan Area is a refuge for many ancient species. Below 700 meters the community is predominantly evergreen broadleaf. Between 700m and 950m, there is a mixed community of evergreen and deciduous broadleaved trees. There are also some coniferous species including Chinese plum yew and pines. Above 950m, there is a community of deciduous broadleaved trees, bushes and herbs. In some areas below 1,000 m, extensive communities are dominated by pine.

Traveling in Zhangjiajie is a journey full of imagination. The mountains here are great masterpieces of nature. Everyone can name the mountain what he or she thinks it look like just as a romantic poet.
