The police captured the man identified as Zhu Shibin and detained him on Monday. He was apprehended in Harbin’s Daqing city.
According to authorities, the man set up the bomb in Dicos restaurant located in Anda. He disassembled firecrackers and used the black powder to create the explosive material. Zhu called the establishment and informed its delivery hotline that the bomb has been set up within the area. He also asked for US$16,000 hence the bomb would explode five minutes after.
The authorities immediately responded to the incident and evacuated those who were in the restaurant at the time. According to local police, three of their colleagues were injured after the bomb exploded. Authorities also reported that they have found an explosive device planted on the corner of the stairs leading to the second floor of the establishment.
Local news agency Heilongjiang Morning News reported that eyewitness saw the man walking inside the restaurant and leaving a bag without making any purchase. A restaurant worker was also cited in the report claiming he received a call that there was a bomb planted within the restaurant.
The injured policemen were identified as Wang Jiliang and Zou Defeng who were later transferred to Harbin No 5 Hospital from a local medical facility. The two were reported having incurred serious burns.
The explosion in Dikos marked the fourth major explosive crime in the past month.
According to media reports, two people were also injured in Tongnan county last Wednesday after a man with marital problems set an explosion in his work place.
Last month, terrorists threw explosive devices to a market in Urumqi which killed 39 people and injured 94 others.
