The designated stylist of South Korean girl group Girls' Generation is currently under fire after speculations that the band's costume at the recently concluded KBS Gayo Daechukjae was plagiarized from the spring collection of Dolce & Gabbana.
Last December 26, Girls' Generation made an appearance at the annual KBS Gayo Daechukjae, also known as the KBS Year-End Song Festival, where they performed sporting identical outfits that were very similar to the design of the spring collection of the international brand Dolce & Gabbana.

Following their performance, a screenshot of a conversation between a netizen and the stylist of the eight-member girl group was posted through an online community website. According to South Korean media outlets, the post contained a question from the netizen, asking the stylist if the clothes worn by the members were a copy of the Dolce & Gabbana collection or if it was merely homage to said brand.
After the question was posted, the stylist of the group is said to have left a comment, saying that it is a form of homage to D&G. The stylist later claimed that she has never seen a person wear the clothes and it was impossible for her to have copied it.
"I just liked the vibe of the clothes and thought the girls would look good in it so we centered the concept around that and did their hair and made them wear red lipstick," the stylist wrote.
The stylist also wrote on her comment that if the design was copied, she considers it as a compliment to the stylist team who made the costumes for the members of the girl group. Furthermore, she expressed her hopes that the brand would sponsor Girls' Generation with clothes.
Despite the stylist's comment, many netizens do not believe her side of the story, pointing out that copying a design from another is not a form of homage, but a bold expression of plagiarism.
Furthermore, they have pointed out that the members of the group used clothes in their performances which were similar to the designs of other brands.
SM Entertainment, the company which manages Girls' Generation, nor the stylist has commented further on the issue.
