Casey Kasem to be Taken Off Life Support

Casey Kasem's children were given the go-ahead by a judge on Wednesday to take the former radio DJ off life support when the time came.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy overruled a Monday ruling which supported a request issued by Kasem's wife Jean in which she demanded that the iconic entertainer continue to be fed. The new ruling allows Kasem's children to withhold food, medication, and fluids, as well as terminate life support, if they felt it was necessary.

The radio icon's daughter, Kerri Kasem, fought hard to remove her father from Jean's care last month after she discovered that his health had rapidly deteriorated in the weeks after the DJ was taken out of a nursing home by Jean and moved to a friend's personal abode.

However, Kerri, Kasem's oldest daughter, seems to have arrived at her father's side too late as, by the time she was able to obtain a court order to take the entertainer away from Jean and place him in skilled care, Kasem's health had highly deteriorated.

The 'American Top 40' star suffers from Lewy Body Disease, an advanced form of dementia, which has left Kasem unable to eat, speak, and move on his own.

Judge Murphy reviewed Kasem's medical records and ruled that it would be harmful for the radio star to continue to receive food and hydration at this time. Murphy also said that Jean did not act in the best interest of her 82-year-old husband by removing him from nursing home care early last month against doctors' orders.

Jean Kasem stormed out of the courtroom following the ruling, but not before telling the judge:

"You have blood on your hands."

Casey Kasem has been in hospice care since Friday and is reportedly surrounded day and night by his  three children and other close family. Jean has kept her distance despite a judge ruling last Thursday that both sides should be allowed visitation hours at the same time in what could be Kasem's 'final hours.'

Kerri Kasem told news sources during a press release on Wednesday that the resolution to take her father off life support has been the most difficult decision she and her siblings have ever had to make.
