Buggy Update Forces Bing, Yahoo Search to Go Offline

Microsoft has unleashed another buggy update - this time to its search platform Bing - forcing Microsoft to shut down its servers to remove the update.
Shutting down Bing servers doesn't affect only Microsoft, but Yahoo's search platform also went offline, due to its search engine being powered by Bing results. Other Microsoft services like Live.com (Hotmail.com redirect) and OneDrive reportedly went offline for a few hours in some locations, although this seems to be a lot smaller range.

Microsoft has since restored power to all affected services, and the update should be pushed out bug-free. It is unclear what the exact issue was that caused a panic at Microsoft HQ. Bing and Yahoo search only control 5 percent of search results, meaning for the majority of web users there was no drop-in service on Friday.
Even for those affected, Microsoft's servers were only down for a few hours, and users could get around the instability by using Google or typing in the web address.
The past few months have not been great for Microsoft when it comes to updates, with several bugs and issues spotted by users. Google recently uploaded an issue with Windows 8.1, before Microsoft released the patch for it.
Ideally, Microsoft will start to proof its updates before pushing them out to millions of users, to avoid these unnecessary server reboots.
