A Catholic priest was shot dead and another priest seriously wounded during an apparent burglary at a Catholic Church in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.

Both victims were not immediately identified by the Phoenix Police Department (PHXPD). A police spokesman, however, said the dead priest was 26-years-old and died at a hospital from his gunshot wounds.

The other priest who made the call to 911 about a burglary at their church is in critical condition. PHXPD is uncertain as to how many suspects were involved in shooting of both priests.

PHXPD officers discovered the two priests when they responded to reports of a burglary at 9:00 p.m. local time on June 11 at the Mother of Mercy Mission at 16th Avenue and Monroe.

A green 2003 Mazda Tribute stolen from the church was later found with no one in it, police said.

Police are continuing to look for the suspects.
