Just hours before the opening game of the FIFA World Cup between host nation Brazil and Croatia a clash between the Brazilian police and protestors erupted that resulted into the firing of tear gas and noise bombs to disperse demonstrators of about 100, who are angry for the lucrative spending of the government for the said event.

The demonstrators found another avenue that leads to the Corinthian Arena, where the game is to be held, to block but clashed with the police force three blocks before. They hurled rocks and set off fires in trash bins.

Sao Paulo local media reported at least one arrest has been made and a producer for CNN has been hurt due to the confrontation.

Brazil spent $11.3 billion to host the prestigious World Cup which led to the outrage of many citizens since basic social services in the country are poorly financed.

But the event is not about to be cancelled and thousands of Brazilian soccer fans rallied to the streets, wearing Brazil's green and yellow colors.

One Brazilian even said that the event is already here and now is the time to get together and cheer for their country that is favored to win against Croatia in the opening match.

President Dilma Roussef is running for re-election this coming October and whether he wins or not depends on how he handles the 2014 World Cup.

If it goes smoothly or not, his chances of winning again will be greatly effected by the outcome of the event.

Brazil will also host the 2016 Olympics and the World Cup will be a sizing factor as to how Brazil handles a major tournament.
