While no aircraft is totally invisible to radar, stealth aircraft make it difficult for conventional radar to detect or track the aircraft effectively, increasing the odds of a successful attack.Stealth is the combination of passive low observable features and active emitters.It is accomplished by using a complex design philosophy to reduce the ability of an opponent's sensors to detect, track, or attack the stealth aircraft. So this is a very tough task for researchers of all over the world.

Generally speaking, stealth bomber represents a major milestone in a country's bomber modernization program.Currently the world's well-known modern examples of stealth aircraft include the United States' F-117 Nighthawk, A-12 Avenger, B-2 Spirit and NGB. Among them, B-2 Spirit is the only manned stealth bomber in service right now.The development of stealth aircraft is still ongoing in Russia.

Besides America and Russia, Contemporary Chinese military is supporting the development of middle-range and long-range stealth bombers. In Xi'an Aircraft Design Institute and Shenyang Aircraft Design Institute, there has been a long history on designing stealth bombers.
