Full moon falls on Friday the 13th this month that prompted a lot of superstitions. However, despite numerous myths and superstitious beliefs, the full moon does not bolster criminal activities or make people go crazy, according to studies. Superstitions of Friday the 13th may be well established but there has been no evidence associating the full moon on the said date for unusual things to occur.

The full moon falling on Friday the 13th may be the lowest to occur this year because it would be closer to the summer solstice. The June full name has been nicknamed Strawberry Moon, a name that the Farmer’s Almanac traces back to the tribe of the Algonquin Native Americans.
The moniker was given to this month’s full moon as June is the strawberry season and traditionally, it coincides with the harvest season.
The summer solstice for this year would fall on June 21 making the full moon of this month lowest in the sky than any other full moon that have and will occur in 2014. Full moons occur when the satellite of the Earth is in the opposite side of the sun. This makes people on Earth view the entire illuminated face of the moon.
The full moon falling on Friday the 13th will have its fullest point at 12:11 AM EDT on Friday. This would mean the those who are covered under the Pacific, Mountain and Central time zones in the US would see the full moon on June 12 and not on the 13th.
Full moons don’t usually fall on Friday the 13th as it occurs sporadically. The last full moon on Friday the 13th happened in August 2011. The next full moon on Friday the 13th would happen on August 13, 2049.
Superstitious beliefs say that crimes, birth rates and even occurrences of madness are increased during a full moon and especially on Friday the 13th. Contrary to this, the full moon has nothing to do with human health and behavior.
In a review published in 1985, the Psychological Bulletin journal was able to record hospital admissions, crimes and psychiatric cases in the past months at the time. Researchers say that they have not tracked any increase in the variables happening every time the moon goes full.
As for pregnant women, the Bulletin of the American Astronomical Society conducted a study in 2001 and examined around 70 million births in the US. The researchers of the study said that they have found no association between labor and the phase of the moon.
