(Photo : D-Link) D-Link has announced a new line of routers at CES 2015, touting WiFi speeds of over 1Gbps.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas plays host to a variety of tech companies, including networking and router firms like D-Link trying to catch the spotlight.

The new D-Link AC3200 ULTRA WiFi Router looks like the most interesting announcement, the Taiwanese company is promising speeds surpassing 1Gbps over WiFi. Although this speed has technically been achieved on 2013 WiFi 802.11ac, tests show it could only hit 500Mbps on the best routers. However, D-Link is using a new 2015 Broadcom chipset, utilizing a unratified standard, named Wave 2.

Wave 2 surpasses the current limitations of 802.11ac, offering up to 7Gbps of speed. D-Link believes they can achieve over 1Gbps on the new standard, and is the first router company to release a product with Wave 2.

However, no computer currently supports Wave 2 technology, meaning the user will need to attach a D-Link WiFi USB adapter to be able to it those high-speeds.

1 Gbps internet is available to an extremely small minority of residents in the U.S., but businesses could utilize this new technology for even faster results.

"We've set the bar for how a Wi-Fi Router should look and perform," said Daniel Kelley, D-Link's vice president of marketing. "Our new ULTRA Performance Series has everything a demanding user is looking for - three bands of Wi-Fi, fast speeds, beam-forming, and QoS - all housed in an attractive form-factor that is sure to make a statement."

On top of all the speed and specs, the D-Link AC3200 also has a new look, looking like a mecha-roomba. D-Link did not give specifics on the price for the router - it should be available during the first quarter of 2015.
