HBO's 'Game of Thrones' to Hit IMAX Theaters This Month

Television network HBO and movie exhibitor IMAX struck a deal that will bring the Game of Thrones TV series to the big screen, and will be the first time a TV show makes an appearance in IMAX theaters.
The unprecedented deal will allow the last two episodes of the fourth season to Game of Thrones, in addition to an exclusive season five trailer, to be available for viewing in more than 150 theaters from Jan. 23 through Jan. 29.

Ticket pricing for Game of Thrones is currently unknown, but moviegoers can expect IMAX to release that information on its official website within the next week. The episodes will also be digitally remastered to fit the massive IMAX screen format.
"The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the Imax format," said HBO's chief marketing officer, Pamela Levine. "We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event."
The move is a no-brainer for HBO, as the deal allows the network to promote the upcoming season 5 of its popular TV series. But the deal is also another step for IMAX in an effort to expand its services beyond just offering Hollywood films.
IMAX recently struck a deal with Netflix that allows the cinema franchise to showcase Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend in its theaters when the Netflix-exclusive film releases in August.
In related news, HBO plans to launch its upcoming stand-alone streaming service sometime before Game of Thrones season 5 officially premieres in April.
