Mozilla to Launch Low-Cost Smartphones in India and Indonesia

Mozilla has announced plans to release inexpensive smartphones for users in India and Indonesia in the coming months. The announcement was made during the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai.
Given the high competition in the smartphone market, it has become very difficult for smartphone manufacturing companies to stand out from the rest. And Mozilla is expected to take a large chunk of the market with the launch of its low-cost smartphones.

"The platform will give us an edge in upgrading buyers from feature phones to smartphones while making it affordable for the mass market," said Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, business-head of Intex Technologies, in a statement related to the Mozilla's announcement.
"This will propel our devices to be much more than a way to use the Web, but take the engagement further and develop the Web as a mobile platform," he added.
Experts suggest that India will prove to be the biggest market for smartphone users by the end of 2014. And with the advent of smartphones laced with a whole new OS, Firefox, Mozilla could really take a giant leap.
The smartphones by Mozilla could be priced as low as $25 or 1,500 Rs, giving a neck to neck competition to other smart phone companies such as Spice and Mircomax.
"Mozilla is dedicated to putting the power of the web in people's hands, and Firefox OS frees consumers, developers, mobile providers and manufacturers from the limitations and restrictions of proprietary platforms," Mozilla Chief Operating Officer Li Gong said in a statement.
