Chile has secured a 3-1 win over Australia, with the latter close to a sensational comeback after they have fallen behind by two goals earlier on.

Australia had a bad start when Alexis Sanchez and Jorge Valdivia seeing a 2-0 trail after just 14 minutes. However, Tim Cahill managed to score his third World Cup goal to help the Australian team get back on track, according to SB Nation.

It was a very close fight between the two teams during the second half, but Jean Beausejour eventually made sure that Chile clinched the win.

Although Chile's lineup was unusual, it seemed like they were going to annihilate Australia in the opening round. It took them just 12 minutes to gain a lead, and Sanchez managed to get past Australia's defense to score a second goal after 70 seconds.

The South American team looked like they were about to wipe their opponents out and just dump additional goals on them.

However, Cahill easily shot past Gary Medel to cross with Ivan Franjic and fire a goal that launched Australia back into the game.

During the second half, Chile was expected to continue their attack, but Australia turned the tables on them. Howard had shot the ball into the net but was called offside. The game became more intense as Australia forced Chile to keep up with them in the period.

Cahill tried once more but only landed another header on the net's roof, and Matthew Leckie also had a miss.

At the end of the game, Chile was able to keep up with the pressure to score three points and was able to win in injury time. Beausejour took advantage of an opening and his long-range shot went past Ryan and thumped into the net.

Australia will take the third place in the group, but the team is still ahead of present world champion Spain. Meanwhile, the Chilean players will need to evaluate themselves after their recent opponent exposed and exploited their weaknesses in the second half.
