A 15-year-old from White Springs who shot her brother to death on Monday, was a victim of sexual and physical abuse for years.

Ariel Kornegay was at times locked inside her bedroom for several days with nothing except a bucket to answer the call of nature and a blanket. Both her uncle and 16-year-old brother Damien, whom she shot to death, allegedly abused her sexually, reports Washington Post

On Monday, when the incident happened, the beating and locking happened again, which was the last straw for Ariel.

Her younger sister, 11-year-old Nicole, unlocked her bedroom door and let Ariel out. The latter then took the handgun hidden in their parent's bedroom.

Keith, 37, the father, is a truck driver, while Misty, 33, the mother, joined Keith on a trip and left Damien in charge.

Ariel returned to the living room, pulled the trigger and left their house in White Springs and went with Nicole to a Dollar General store from where Nicole asked her friend's mother to fetch her because she left home. The friend's mother went and found the two.

Ariel's initial said that their parents kicked them out, but she later admitted to the mother of Nicole's friend that she shot Damien. The woman then alerted the police who found Damien's body and a 3-year-old girl left with the corpse. They took and brought the tyke to the state's Department of Children and Families.

"It's hard for us to get our arms around this act ... This is the stuff nightmares are made of," Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter said of the incident.

Keith and Misty were detained and charged with child neglect for not properly supervising their kids. Ariel and Nicole, on the other hand, are in a juvenile detention facility, while a prosecutor is determining if they would be charged as adults.

The parents and the two girls were scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday

According to police records, Ariel's uncle was convicted for molesting her in 2010, while her mother discovered that Damien and Ariel were engaged in incest, which the police and child welfare officials investigated, but no one was charged.
