A residential building in Kunming, China recently announced that each person that will be using the elevator to get to the top floors where the restaurans are located will be charged CNY5, prompting students of a primary school to walk 22 floors up just to eat lunch.
The Xiaofanzhuo restaurants have branches on the fifth, the 20th and the 22nd floors and mainly cater to students from the primary school. However, since there were so many people on the other floors, students are forced to go all the way up to the 22nd floor.

Parents and students reportedly refuse to pay for the lift and according to China News, the hike is too exhausting and is too much for the kids. Some of the kids were even photographed crying upon reaching the 20th floor due to exhaustion.
The management said that the charge was implemented to the frequent use of parents and children of the lift and the maintenance fees are increasing. According to police officers, the restaurant owners should no longer be doing business in the building as it poses safety risks to children and that it disturbs the residents living in the area.
An official from the Kunming Price Control Administration pointed out that the property management fee has not included the maintenance cause for the lifts, thus the charge is legal. Also, there has been no regulations on how much should the charge be and there is no way of knowing if the charge is reasonable.
"We can't decide whether the charge is too much until evaluation of the situation," the official said. "We suggest that negotiation be conducted among parents, the restaurants and the management office."
The negotiation between the restaurants, the parents, and the management office regarding the fee has been cancelled as of now but no information as to when it will resume has been announced yet.
