Hackers have taken down a complete series of FIFA World Cup related websites, including those run by government and official partners of the World Cup.
A hacker group known by the name Anonymous has claimed that it is responsible for these cyber attacks. Among the websites taken off the Internet are the Mato Grosso and World Cup sponsor, Hyundai. However, the latter has not yet confirmed if indeed it has been attacked by hackers.

It is believed that the hackers used DDoS which stands for Distributed Denial of Service attacks. In this kind of attack, large volumes of traffic are sent to the target website, which causes it to crash.
"We had a busy last few days and there is more still to come," a hacker from the Anonymous group told Reuters.
"Companies and institutions that work with a government that denies the basic rights of its people in order to promote a private, exclusive and corrupt sports event will be targeted," he added.
This whole issue has stumped many, especially since the World Cup tournament has commenced already, sending waves of disappointment to FIFA fans worldwide.
Edward Parsons, senior manager of the cyber security KPMG, said these kinds of cyber attacks are generally made for gaining publicity and notoriety. However, he said no one knows for certain what the actual motives of the attackers are.
