Immobilise.com is an online service that many police forces in the United Kingdom recommend. This service allows individuals to enter records into the National Property Register so that they can provide details about their homes, such as its value.
Just recently though, security expert Paul Moore found a flaw that enabled people to access other users' records.

According to the BBC, Moore made this discovery when he altered ID numbers in the URL of the website. When he made changes into the web address of the site, he found that various records could be downloaded automatically without him having to go through other security steps.
This meant people who signed up with Immobilise can have their personal information stolen.
A user's complete name, complete address and estimates of the worth of each item listed are the details recorded on Immobilise. There are more than four million individuals who make use of the service. All of them, including their personal information and details of their properties. Became vulnerable because of the flaw.
Fortunately, the online service's operators said the flaw has already been fixed and that users' records are no longer vulnerable, according to IT Pro Portal.
The Association of Chief Police Officers, the organization tasked with ensuring that police website recommendations are safe, informed the public that all of the criteria had been met by the online service. The association also pointed out it was happy for the speedy rectification of the problem, but have a discussion with the online service's operators, Recipero.
"The vulnerability targeted a feature intended for use by registrants when inviting their insurers to view details of an item," the company explained. "This vulnerability has been removed and a thorough review of records revealed no evidence of irregular usage."
