Bai Yunjiang was sentenced to death by the Jiamusi Intermediate Court while his wife Tan Beibei was sentenced to life imprisonment.
In July 24, 2013, then pregnant Tan pretended to have abdominal pains and asked 17-year-old Hu Yixuan for help. Hu accompanied Tan into their home so that husband Bai could rape her.
The couple gave Hu some poisoned yogurt to make the victim unconscious but Bai wasn't able to rape her and ended up suffocating the girl which led to her death.
Bai and Tan then placed her lifeless body into a suitcase and buried it in a rural area of the Northeast part of China.
A few days later, the body was found and the couple was arrested. The body of Hu was identified in July 29, 2013.
The court said that the couple has raped two other girls and in both cases, they were also given poisoned drinks, robbed and raped by Bai.
Both pled guilty to the court and apologized to Hu's family. They were asked to pay the family 374,499 Yuan ($60,840).
Under the Chinese Criminal Law, Tan was pregnant during her time of deliberation and could not give her the death penalty like her husband.
Sun Hungbo, 43 years old and mother of Hu, was not able to attend the sentencing of the couple for she could not accept Tan not getting the death penalty.
Hu is the only child of Sun and the Jiamusi government gave Sun basic living allowances plus a job that should be earning her 1,200 Yuan a month.
Tan gave birth in August 6, 2013 to a baby boy which both the couple and the relatives gave up custody. The child was sent to a local welfare center and calls from around China have been received to adopt the baby, mostly saying that the child is innocent of their parent's heinous crimes.
