Embeddable Implants are Going Mainstream

Embeddable implants are giving smartwear technology a run for the money. The funny thing is that the former seems to have already taken over the latter, even before smartwearable products have gained popularity.

One of the main reasons is because of the many pitfalls of wearable technology. This is where embeddable implants come into play.

According to CNN, there's a new kind of embeddable technology that will prevent you from getting lost--even if you're in deep woods.

This tech is an implantable guiding system designed to be inserted underneath the user's skin.

Thanks to Brian McEvoy, an electronics engineer made a name for himself in the biohacking industry, the first ever internal compass is now in existence. He'll also be the first person to get the compass implanted in his body.

Called "Southpaw," the device consists of a tiny compass coated in silicon and placed inside a titanium case. The extremely thin pointer is activated once the wearer faces north.

For the user to know this, the device will send an alert in the form of a light brush felt on the skin's underside.

Aside from the Southpaw, there are several other embeddable implants gaining popularity and recognition. An example is a device developed by University of Illinois and Tufts University researchers. These electronic implants are able to get rid of bacterial infections through the use of wireless signals.
