Woody Allen has had a very impressive career in film. But the critically acclaimed director is apparently now headed to television after signing with Amazon.
Amazon has officially announced that Allen will be writing and directing his first television series with Amazon ordering a full season of what is envisioned to be a half hour show set to debut on their streaming service next year.

The yet untitled project is set for an exclusive Amazon release via their Prime Instant Video service, exclusive to US residents.
In a statement, Allen says--
"I don't know how I got into this," the 79 year old director said said in a statement. "I have no ideas, and I'm not sure where to begin."
The deal also signals Amazon's move to compete with the likes of Netflix and Hulu who are focusing on providing more value from their digital streaming services.
"I had always thought Woody Allen's characters and comedy would translate beautifully to TV, particularly now with more serialized story lines and openness to nuanced characterization," Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios said, while expressing his delight at working with the acclaimed director.
To which Allen replies, "My guess is that Roy Price will regret this."
Allen joins other acclaimed directors who have made their small screen debuts such as Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, David Fincher and Guillermo del Toro, who have all recently made forays into television with individual and highly acclaimed projects.
Allen's Amazon deal is part and parcel of Amazon's overall strategy to draw more consumers to its $99 a year Prime platform via original content.
