A New Zealand woman had undergone an operation to have her ovaries removed after months of different tests, but doctors were shocked to find a healthy 9-pound baby boy inside her womb.

Rebecca Oldham, 25, had previously taken six different pregnancy tests within a few months while she was experiencing extreme stomach cramps. The doctors never found out she was pregnant until they performed an operation originally intended to remove Oldham's "problematic" ovaries, according to Hollywood Life.

Oldham's doctors believe they had already ruled out pregnancy and other conditions that may have caused her mysterious stomach pain. The 25-year-old patient had six different pregnancy tests, three body scans, and two blood tests.

After determining that her ovaries were the most probable cause of the pain, the doctors decided to have them removed and found a baby boy inside her womb during the procedure. They waited for Rebecca to wake before relaying to her the good news.

According to an account by Life News, the doctors told Rebecca they would perform an emergency Caesarian section to deliver the baby, instead of the planned removal of her ovaries. The operation was performed in November 2013 in Middlemore Hospital, Manukau City.

An investigation had also been launched to find out if anything was overlooked in the diagnosis of Oldham's condition.

In an interview with the New Zealand Herald, the New Zealand mom said she had faced the possibility of not being able to bear a child again because of the problems with her ovaries. She had given birth to baby girl Hayley 20 months back, and she was very happy to learn about the new baby despite the short notice.

Oldham named her second baby James, after his dad James Tipene. Baby James is now seven months old.

The Daily Mail said one in 600 mothers are unaware of their pregnancy until their delivery time comes.
