World Cup Players Banned From Wearing Headphones By Dr. Dre

Beats headphones founded by rapper and hip-hop producer Dr. Dre was banned by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) from being used by the players during their games and official venues of the World Cup in Brazil.

This ban is due to FIFA's licensing deal with Sony who is a rival of Beats. Sony gave each of the players who participated in the World Cup a free pair of headphones for them to use instead.

Sony has signed an eight-year agreement with FIFA between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2014. They will be marketing and promoting FIFA events worldwide including the World Cup events in 2010 and 2014.

Sony introduced their 4k Film technology in the 2014 FIFA World Cup offering viewers true High Definition.

Soichi Kawachi, vice president in charge of the FIFA Partnership at Sony, conveyed excitement over the new technology.

"We are very excited to offer an entirely new viewing experience at the greatest sport event in the world, the FIFA World Cup," Kawachi said. "By leveraging our cutting-edge 4K technology and our premier products and solutions through our partnership with FIFA."

Kawachi said sony will deliver its users a unique and totally compelling entertainment experience that would capture excitement the World Cup in Brazil.

Andre "Dr. Dre" Young founded the company "Beats by Dr. Dre" in 2006 and in August of 2011, mobile phone manufacturer HTC bought 50.1 percent majority of the shares in Beats for a price of $309 million. However, in July of 2012, HTC sold back 25 percent of its shares to Beats and in September of 2013, Beats bought back 24.84 percent of the remaining shares of HTC.

Just recently, Apple Inc. reported that they are currently under negotiations with Beats Electronics and wants to purchase the company for $3.2 billion. If the acquisition is successful by the end of 2014, it will be the largest purchase of any company in history.

Earlier this month, Beats by Dre released a 5-minute video on YouTube featuring football stars like Neymar, Chicharito, Jozy Altidore and Mario Gotze.
