In a revolutionary act, this Tuesday, scents of chocolate and champagne were sent to New York City from Paris with a special device called oPhone DUO, in the form of mobile messages!
Vapor Communications is Paris-based company which is one of the pioneers of scent-based messaging system. The company launched Indiegogo campaign this Tuesday, regarding the whole setup. oPhone is a special device provided by them, which contains several small cartridges (called as oChips). These cartridges resemble small ink cartridges but are used for scents.

To send a fragrance laced message all one needs to do is use the free iPhone app called oSnap. From this app one can then choose any kind of scent combination from three hundred thousand scents, and then sent it via an "oNote" through email, Twitter, or Facebook. The user can also send a picture of the food along with it so that the receiver can actually smell and see what the sender is eating.
The device oPhone was designed by David Edwards, a Harward engineering professor. It is expected that the device will be commercialized by the next year and will be available for purchase at around $199 a piece. However, it is available for pre-order at $149 for anyone who donates to the device's Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.
"Scent is the world's natural tweet, because it takes just a few seconds to get a scent," Edwards said in a public statment. "The notion of people saying, 'I miss you in New York,' by sending a scent is really interesting and powerful. Or imagine taking a scent selfie and posting it on Facebook."
