Yesterday, January 14, the same day when the first part of the show was launched, JYP Entertainment announced that Bambam and Yugyeom of the band GOT7 would not be able to participate in the event since they have not been issues visas to China. Only five of the seven members were able to attend said function despite the fact that they are the recipients of the Rookie Award.
It doesn't end with GOT7 as four out of the six members of the band BEAST failed to receive their performance visas. In the end, only half of the members were able to go to China using tourist visas instead. The band has won three awards including the Digital Music accolade, however, they were not able to perform.
According to reports, the problem was caused by mistakes on the part of the Chinese company which was in charge of organizing the awards show. A representative of the company stated that since there were many groups that would attend the event, they've missed some of the members who were supposed to perform, thus the failure to issue them visas.
Furthermore, despite having obtained permission from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Public Safety Bureau of China poses as another hurdle for the company to be able to commence with the awards ceremony without problems. Reports say that if the performance of the artists who were provided with tourist visas becomes a problem, the whole event could be cancelled.
Fans of the groups concerned were outraged about the outcome of the awards ceremony, especially because they have expected all the members to perform. Furthermore, the artists who were issued tourist visas were not able to perform and had to stay backstage during the event.
