Former English footballer turned television and radio personality Ian Wright has flown back to his home in northwest London from Brazil due to a burglary incident involving his wife and two children.
Reports say that four men have broken into his home armed with knives and held his wife and two daughters in two separate rooms before taking their personal belongings.
A spokesman for the Scotland Yard said they are already looking into the matter after describing the incident that transpired.
"We are investigating an aggravated burglary at an address in northwest London after we were called at 9:20 last night. Personal possessions were stolen," the spokesman said. "The suspects are described as four black men aged between 18 to 25, with London accents, wearing dark clothing and hoodies obscuring their faces."
Officers are reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.
The 50-year-old Wright has been working for ITV, a commercial public service TV network in the United Kingdom. After learning that a group of men had held a blade right at his wife Nancy's throat, he immediately flew off from the World Cup in Brazil to be with his family.
"It was a terrifying ordeal. They marched Ian's wife from room to room," Steve Kutner, Wright's manager, told the press. "I would like to thank ITV for helping Ian to get home as quickly as possible."
"Nancy is really shaken up. Their kids are so young that hopefully they aren't going to read into it too much," A spokesman of Wright said. "They are all physically OK - Nancy and the kids."
Following Wright's return home, he told reporters that "All I want to say, really, is that my missus, my girls, everyone's safe. The police are trying to get on doing what they are doing."
When asked about his wife, Wright said: "She's feeling good that I am back."
Neighbors have expressed their sympathy's to the family.
"Ian is a neighbor and a decent family man. He's been living here several years and everyone here respects his privacy," one neighbor said.
Another neighbor said: "They are very unpretentious people. They are one of us and I'm terribly sorry for them, it's awful."
