"Birdman" And "Boyhood" Lead Critics Choice Award Winners

Birdman and Boyhood dominated the Broadcast Film Critics Association's Critics Choice Awards, although the association has not forgotten the lesser known films.

Boyhood grabbed the top honors for best picture and best director for Richard Linklater               , while in the acting category, Patricia and Ellar Coltrane won best supporting actresses

Meanwhile, Julianne Moore, believed to be strongest contender for best actress at the Oscars, took hom the best actress title for her role as the Columbia professor suffering from the early onset of Alzheimer's disease in Still Alice."

Gone Girl meanwhile was honored with the best adapted screenplay plum, while the best original screenplay went to Birdman, which was also the award's most nomination film.

Birdman also won for best score, best ensemble and best comedy actor for Michael Keaton.

J.K. Simmons won best supporting actor for his role in Whiplash.

The Grand Budapest Hotel took home the best comedy honor, while Jenny Slate was awarded best comedy actress for Obvious Child.

Jessica Chastain received the freshman MVP award, which is handled to performers who appeared in multiple standout movies in one year. Chastain was cast in Interstellar, Miss Julie, The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby and A Most Violent Year.

Kevin Costner was honored with the lifetime achievement.

"Nobody has it better than the actors, so try to act grateful," the Oscar-winning actor said.

Action movies are never left unnoticed in the Critics Choice. This year, Guardians of the Galaxy bagged the best action movie. Bradley Cooper was announced action actor for American Sniper while Emily Blunt won action actress for Edge of Tomorrow.
