There are 130 KFC stores across China that will undergo change. The KFC management said its stores will have new designs including off-white and gray walls, and will be decorated with modern-themed paintings.
The remodeling of the KFC stores in China will also include wooden tables in its interior design. The areas of the restaurants will be separated by glass and green plants. KFC's new plan is in contrast to the traditional fast food restaurant setting. KFC plans to create a social hangout ambiance for its customers.
Zhao Li, KFC Beijing’s general manager, said that the new design is expected to make customers feel more at home. Zhao also added that the company aims to let its customers dine, talk and surf online without hassle.
Aside from the new store concept, KFC will also adapt new uniforms for its workers and will introduce a new electronic menu.
KFC’s parent company, Yum! Brands, said that the company has planned to open 700 new food chains in China this year. Officials of the company said the concept will be followed by all newly established KFC stores and those that are undergoing renovation.
Yum’s China chairman and CEO, Su Jingshi, said that KFC needs to undergo changes to cater to more customers. The revamp of KFC in China is strategic after preference for foreign brands, including food choices, have declined.
Su also said that the company has to adapt new strategies to be able to keep up with the demands of its customers who prefer online and mobile transactions. He said that the international fast food chain has a different position in China when compared to its stores worldwide.
Su added that their restaurants' facelift is essential to the company's success. Although KFC offers fast service, customers are not limited to dining only in the restaurants. In fact, KFC's new concept will create a new ambiance for customers especially those who are after a comfortable environment that is suited business meetings and social interaction.
By the end of 2014, KFC China expects its fast food chain to have around 2,000 restaurants in China that offers free Wi-Fi services. In addition, customers who have paid orders through mobile apps would be able to receive their orders after they arrive at the restaurant.
KFC has a total of 4,600 fast food chains in China.
