According to the Asymco's report on Thursday (June 13, 2013), the analyst Horace Dediu pointed out that, more than half a million iTunes accounts are being created each day, on average. At Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier in June, Time Cook, the CEO of Apple Inc., announced iTunes has 575 million accounts.

Horace Dediu took that figure and calculated it with previous iTunes membership milestones to find the average number of more than 500,000 new iTunes accounts created daily. At current rates, the company will add 100 million accounts by the end of 2013.

This puts Apple second only to Facebook in total number of user accounts. Facebook have nearly two times as many users as iTunes, however, Apple is growing faster. In 2012, the iTunes account base grew about 55 percent. Interestingly, an automated music recommendation service, Pandora Internet Radio, also know as Pandora, grew its user base by 39 percent while Facebook came in third at 25 percent.

But the good news for Apple is, even Facebook has won the quantity battle for now, Apple did a better job on its quality competition. Apple generates an average of $329 per account while Facebook generates only $5. If Dediu's trend continues, iTunes will add another 100 million account users this year. If it holds for three years, iTunes will have more account users than Facebook by 2017.

"iTunes currently sees over 1,000 downloads every secondwith apps accounting for a whopping 80% of those. It's no wonder Apple's paid over $9 billion to app developers so far. In fact, iTunes app downloads are so big that they currently account for 74% of all app sales worldwide."
