Amazon finally launched its much-awaited flagship phone, the Fire Phone, this Wednesday. Equipped with high-end specifications and features this phone could be a rival which other popular smartphones need to keep an eye on. One of the key characteristics of the Fire Phone is that it comes with its own appstore- Amazon's Appstore.

While you are not allowed to access Google's popular playstore on the Fire Phone, it does allow you to download most of the popular apps from the Amazon Appstore. It is expected that more interesting apps are on their way.

The smartphones of today are 'smart' because of the apps installed on them. And so, despite having a myriad of features and high-end specifications, a phone could end up being good-for-nothing if good apps can't be installed on it. It can be thus said, that the popularity of the Fire Phone will depend on the kinds of apps Amazon Appstore manages to offer.

For now, Amazon Appstore allows you to at least download most of the popular apps such as- Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Candy Crush, Pandora, Evernote and Pinterest.  The entire store has over 240,000 apps, which is still far less than Google's Playstore (One million apps), but Amazon promises to soon add more apps to the store at an exponential rate.

Amazon is giving away 1,000 Amazon Coins (which are to be used at Amazon store) for free along with the phone so that you can get started. These coins can be used for purchasing apps, or for in-built app purchases.
