What might we look like in the future?

Many of the predictions for what will human look like in the future are based on past trends or on the fanciful idea that body parts used more frequently will get larger, or those that are used less will shrink. Some researchers have predicted that the human face is in for some eye-popping changes in the 100,000 years from now.

"This is more of a speculative look than a scientific look into one possible future where human engineering replaces natural evolution in determining human physiology, but we have been very happy that our humble project has garnered so much attention and provided a platform for others share their own vision of the future," according to Alan Kwan, a computational geneticist who conducted the futuristic study, "It's one possible outcome, our skin will change to a darker pigment to protect us from dangerous UV rays."

Based on Dr. Alan Kwan's hypotheses, a Pittsburgh-based artist, Nickolay Lamm, has created four sci-fi-like illustrations showing the ideas of how human faces are going to change in 20,000 years, 60,000 year, and 100,000 years from now.

"Our future selves will ultimately control human biology and human evolution the way we control the flow of electrons through our electronics today," Kwan said, "In this potential future, humankind has wrested control of the human form from natural evolution and are able to bend human biology to human needs."
