"There was some type of filming occurring at the time but we don't know what it was for," police said.

In 2013, a video showing the celebrity working out on and near train tracks was posted on his website. It is still unclear if Plitt was there to shoot another workout video.

Plitt's reality TV show Work Out went on air from 2006 and 2008. His newest TV series, Friends to Lovers, debuted six days ago, where he appeared with his friend and co-fitness instructor Melanie Marden.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Plitt attended the military academy at West Point before joining the Army as a captain and ranger. He then entered show business where he initially started as a fitness model and actor.

Plitt's website claims that he has graced more than 250 fitness magazine covers and got sponsorships from MET-Rx under Armour Performance Apparel and Gold's Gym.  Likewise, his fit body was the inspiration behind Zack Snyder's character in the 2009 superhero movie Watchmen.

His acting credits include small roles in the soap opera Days of Our Lives and in the motion picture Terminator Salvation.

Plitt's tragic death came as a shock to his loved ones and workmates.

"This is a terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with Greg Plitt's family and friends at this extremely difficult time," said a statement issued by Bravo on Twitter.
