A$AP Yams, Founder of Harlem-based A$AP Mob, Dead At 26

Steven Rodriguez, better known for his screen A$AP Yams, the founding member of the Harlem-based hip-hop group A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg, passed away at the age of 26.

No official statement has yet been released with regards to his death.

Members of A$AP Mob took to social media to express their admiration and sincere thanks for their member.

"You will be missed Bro," A$AP Ferg posted on Instagram.

A$SAP Ferg also recalled their memories together.

"You will always be loved & your spirit will live on!!!," the statement continued.

A$AP Rocky, meanwhile, posted a pic of Yams on Instagram captioned "R.I.P YAMS, I LOVE YOU BROTHER."

Yams founded A$AP Mob with A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz in 2007. He was only 17 then but eventually emerged as one of the promising tastemakers in hip hop, thanks to his strong following on Tumblr. The New York crew eventually gained footing in the Hip hop scene.

Other hip-hop stars were also saddened by Yam's death and offered their condolences.

Azelia Banks tweeted: "A.S.A.P YAMS should be remembered as a leader, an innovator and most importantly as an important part of NYC youth culture."

"Rest in peace Yams. A$AP is family," Drake posted on his Twitter.

RCA Records also issued a statement:

"All of us at RCA Records are shocked and saddened to hear of the death of A$AP Yams. As one of the creative forces behind A$AP Worldwide, Yams' vision, humor and dedication to the members of A$AP Mob will always be remembered. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends," the statement said.  

Polo Grounds Music said it was "deeply saddened by the loss of our friend A$AP Yams."

Meanwhile, Polo Grounds Music hailed Yams as " true visionary... a driving force in A$AP Mob."
