Many people love pizza. But there's a new study revealing that American children face health risks because they're imbibing unusual amounts of calories every time they eat pizza.

An average of 90 calories is added to the daily food intake of children aged between two to 11 years old when they chow down on a pizza. On the other hand, teenagers consume an extra 230 calories for the pizza alone.

The statistics are based on the research published in Journal Pediatrics. Researchers' findings also point out a lot of saturated fat is consumed once pizza becomes part of a daily menu.

It is not a mortal sin to eat pizza, but experts suggest there should be a limit to it. The parents' role is very important as they shouldn't give pizza to their children in between meals.

Pizza isn't really bad at all. Served with salads or any green vegetables along with high protein food, pizza helps in limiting the number of pizza slices young ones eat.

"You know, it's fine to have a treat here and there, have a special treat with a little pizza once or twice a month. But, to get in the habit of eating it every day, or a few times a week, it really puts a lot of extra calories that you don't really need. Making it yourself and using whole wheat bread, dough, and also putting more fruits and vegetables on it and less meats can help with that as well," said Dr. Mary Ann Kroll of Pediatric Associates with United Hospital Center.

These new findings don't mean we should stop eating pizza. It means parents should make healthier changes to every pizza slice their children eat.
