The smell of bacon cooking is considered by many people as one of the things that starts a day right. However, Chinese officials are blaming the process of making bacon for the high level of pollution in several Chinese cities.

A Dazhou official said the residents of Sichuan Province use of a traditional preservation method for processed pork such as bacon and sausage add to the town's bad air quality.
But residents just laughed at the official and said they have been smoking bacon for centuries. One resident sarcastically commented on China most popular microblogging site, Weibo, that the people who "discovered" the alleged link between bacons and air pollution should win a Nobel award.
Another town that is pointing the finger to bacons is Chongqing as its PM 2.5 also registered a significant increase. PM 2.5 are pollutants made from tiny particles that negatively affect the function of the lungs.
But Zheng Jian, head of Bayu NPO Development Center, a social service agency in that Chinese city, admitted that while processing of the favorite breakfast item does affect air quality, it does not have a substantial impact on levels of air pollution.
But other Chinese cities such as Tiamjin in Heibei province and parts of Shanxi and Sichuan provinces.
